*John Densmore of The Doors and hip-hop legend Chuck D of Public Enemy have teamed up for a new musical project called doPE. Their debut album, “no country for old men,” combines spoken word, rhythm, and sharp social commentary to unite generations of rebellion and reflection. The project also features the 2026 Record Store Day Song of the Year, “every tick tick tick.”
Per the news release, the album will be released exclusively for Record Store Day 2026, arriving in stores on April 18 via Org Music. The limited-edition record comes in a deluxe gatefold package that includes original illustrations created by Chuck D himself.
The origins of doPE trace back to a chance encounter at a Record Store Day panel in 2014. A year later, Densmore received a brief email from Chuck D that read, “You’ve got the beats, I’ve got the rhymes, let’s make doPE.” Chuck D stylized the project’s name using the first two letters from The Doors’ logo and the last two letters from Public Enemy’s iconic symbol, sparking a collaboration that bridges genres and generations.

In addition to doPE, Public Enemy is set to join Guns N’ Roses on their North American tour in 2026. The legendary hip-hop group, consisting of Chuck D and Flavor Flav, will support the first eight shows, starting July 23 in Raleigh, North Carolina, and concluding August 16 in St. Louis.
The tour also features The Black Crowes, Ice Cube, Pierce the Veil, and The Barbarians of California. Public Enemy and Guns N’ Roses previously toured together internationally in 2025, marking a reunion of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees and GRAMMY Award winners. Public Enemy recently released “Black Sky Over the Projects: Apartment 2025,” their first album in five years. Pick up tickets here.
