*Hip-hop mogul and entrepreneur Damon Dash sparked controversy after claiming to be the new interim chairman of REVOLT TV during a heated interview with Charlamagne Tha God on “The Breakfast Club.” Dash said he would hold the position for one month, though a statement via TSR suggested that no formal deal has been finalized, despite discussions of collaboration. Dash has remained firm in defending his interim appointment.
As Vibe reports, Detavio Samuels, CEO of REVOLT TV, expressed enthusiasm for working with Dash. “As the CEO of a media company dedicated to Hip Hop culture and the diverse creators and consumers who drive it, it made sense to do business with Dame,” Samuels said. “After 30 years, he continues to be a driving force in hip hop and pop culture, and people want to hear what he has to say no matter how they feel about it.”
Breakfast Club co-host Loren LoRosa, however, tweeted that she spoke with REVOLT’s lead publicist, who allegedly confirmed that Dash is not chairman, Hot New Hip Hop reports. Dash fired back, writing, “Here goes the bullsh*t, I’m the chairman for the month. If I acquire I will be official chairman please stop playing with words. Just take that L.” The “L” referred to the heated exchange between Dash and Charlamagne, which included Dash threatening the host during the interview.
On September 16, Vibe claimed that Dash and REVOLT TV officially announced his appointment, highlighting that he would bring content from his AmericaNu Network to the platform and simulcast 25 episodes of his podcast, “Bosses Take Losses.”
REVOLT TV will also feature Dash’s docuseries, “My Paid in Full,” which highlights figures from the 2002 film he spearheaded. Dash explained in the trailer, “When I made Paid in Full, my intention wasn’t to tell the story of one crew. Every block had their own Paid in Full. The block I was from and my own experience is my own Paid in Full. I saw things and I know people that were actually there. And everyone else that lived in Harlem around that period of time has their own. And I’m going to showcase everyone’s Paid and Full that I’ve seen actually live the Paid and Full life. This is My Paid and Full.”
