*The 2025 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade kicked off Thursday morning in New York City with Cynthia Erivo as the first performer. The “Wicked” star delivered a rendition of Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good,” and the performance was met with mixed reviews.
As the Daily Mail reports, one viewer wrote, “Alright here we go with the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade. Started out with a performance by Cynthia Erivo. Which means it’s probably going to suck this year.” Another commented, “Just turned on the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade and the first thing I see is Cynthia Erivo singing. Turned it right off. Done. With. Woke. B.S. Have a lovely Thanksgiving everyone!”
Criticism continued among others who felt the opening moments signaled an unwelcome shift. One user remarked, “WTF is up with the Macy’s Thanksgiving parade? Cynthia Erivo leading off, followed by the next performance being in Spanish. Kind of seemed like they are flipping regular Americans the finger with the progressive propaganda. Turned it off. Used to enjoy this tradition.”

The parade, celebrating its 99th year, featured 34 balloons and 28 floats, including new additions like Buzz Lightyear from “Toy Story” and Nintendo’s Super Mario. The event featured musicians and singers including Busta Rhymes, Calum Scott, Christopher Jackson, Colbie Caillat, Ciara, Linaey Wilson, and Teyana Taylor.
Busta Rhymes’ appearance on the “World of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Chocolate Factory” float drew reactions from viewers who thought he was lip-syncing.
Fans voiced their reactions on X as he struggled to match the pace of his track, with one writing, “Busta Rhymes doing that one verse is funny enough but also lip syncing it for the parade is crazy.” Another said, “Busta Rhymes can’t even keep up with the lip sync at Macy’s Parade.”
A third commented, “I really am so grateful for Busta Rhymes lip synching on a float with the Ninja Turtles… this is what I need in life,” while another added, “Busta Rhymes lip syncing was a bad call.”
