*Former “Saturday Night Live” performer Chris Redd has publicly addressed his romantic involvement with Christina Evangeline, the ex-wife of his former castmate Kenan Thompson, saying the relationship contributed to his exit from the show.
Redd shared details about the situation in a six-minute video posted to Instagram, where he also discussed mental health challenges he faced during his tenure on the sketch-comedy series. The comedian disclosed struggles with anxiety and prescription medication use while working on SNL. Redd acknowledged past substance issues, revealing he sometimes distributed pills to others while dealing with his own mental health difficulties.
According to Redd, his bond with Evangeline formed naturally as both worked through personal challenges and therapy. He described her as “the only one to call me on my s—t, help me with my s—t, she helped me with my therapy journey, and she told me things about her life that made me look at a lot of people involved in it differently.”

Redd expressed internal conflict about the relationship from its beginning, given his professional respect for Thompson and their collaborative history on Saturday Night Live and Thompson’s NBC comedy “Kenan.”
“In that time, we fell in love and I felt bad from the start,” Redd said. “It’s always felt like an emotional double-edged sword for me, because I really love everything me and Kenan did, bro. I really appreciated every piece of work we put together, I think that we were a great team, and I hate doing something to somebody that I know would hurt them.”
The comedian stated he had a private conversation with Thompson about the situation and indicated his departure from Saturday Night Live came after word of the relationship with Evangeline spread beyond their immediate circle.
