*A California jury unanimously ruled in favor of Cardi B, finding her not liable for assault and battery in a $24 million civil lawsuit filed by former security guard Emani Ellis.
As TMZ reports, the lawsuit, which stemmed from a 2018 altercation at a doctor’s office, alleged that Cardi hit Ellis, spat on her, cut her face, and used racial slurs. Cardi denied any physical contact, testifying that the incident was a verbal dispute sparked by Ellis recording her during a prenatal visit. Testimony from Cardi’s doctor and his receptionist supported the rapper’s account, stating they never witnessed her striking Ellis.
Ellis, who sought $24 million in damages, expressed satisfaction with having her day in court despite the verdict. Her legal team announced plans to appeal the decision.

The trial, which began last month after Ellis filed the lawsuit in 2020, also saw a separate incident on September 2, 2025, outside the Alhambra, California courthouse. Cardi, visibly pregnant, threw a marker at blogger Donat after he questioned her about “paternity issues” involving her boyfriend Stefon Diggs and ex-husband Offset.
“That’s for disrespecting me. Don’t disrespect me!” Cardi told the blogger, criticizing his line of questioning. “Do you see women asking those type of questions to me? Why do you feel that as a man, you guys can ask me those type of questions? Act like you have some manners and your mama taught you respect.”
The blogger, previously attacked by Diddy’s former bodyguard during another high-profile trial, responded, “I still love you even though you just threw some stuff at me.” He was subsequently barred from covering the trial’s closing arguments.
Cardi vowed to take legal action against anyone filing “nefarious” lawsuits against her in the future.
