*Nykia Hamilton, a 25-year-old mother of three who gained widespread attention for single-handedly managing a busy Columbia, South Carolina, Burger King, has been fired.
A TikTok video showed her juggling cooking, cleaning, and serving customers alone. On August 8, Hamilton shared her emotional reaction to the termination, stating, “My kids come first. Y’all don’t pay for no babysitter, or nothing. My mind is already f***ed up. I’m trying to keep pushing for my kids, but I cannot do this s*** no more. The devil been on my back bad.”
A Burger King spokesperson addressed the situation, telling The Independent, “No Team Member should ever be left to run a restaurant alone, even for a short period of time. That’s not how we operate, and we’re disappointed that our policy, which requires more than one Team Member to work per shift, wasn’t followed.”
The spokesperson noted that terminations are decided by franchisees, adding, “In this situation, the franchisee confirmed that the individual involved is no longer employed due to repeated attendance issues.” They emphasized their commitment to proper staffing and guest experience but declined to discuss personnel details further.

Hamilton, who started a GoFundMe that has raised over $96,000, expressed gratitude, writing, “Thank yall so much for the support I didn’t expect turn out but I promise I won’t let yall stay tune for videos dropping soon.”
In an interview with WACH, she described the toll of her 12-hour solo shifts, saying, “I be missing out on my kids’ lives and I work a lot. I have to provide for them, but I really don’t have time to spend with them—and it hurts me a lot.”
She recounted a day when a co-worker quit, leaving her to handle everything: “One of my employees just quit on me, and they didn’t have anyone else to come in, so I had to work by myself, and close by myself. Had to do the dishes, do prep, do the floor, do the front counter, drive-thru.”
Despite the challenges, Hamilton appreciated her manager’s support, noting, “I wouldn’t have no job because I do have a record, and it is hard to find a job with a record. And by grace of God, she gave me a job. So that’s the only reason why I stayed for her.”
