*Blumhouse chose the CCXP Festival in Mexico City to pull the curtain back on “Black Phone 2,” unveiling a chilling first trailer for the highly anticipated sequel to 2021’s sleeper-hit horror film.
Director Scott Derrickson is once again behind the camera, reteaming with longtime writing partner C. Robert Cargill to expand Joe Hill’s spine-tingling universe. Ethan Hawke reprises what Blumhouse calls “the most sinister role of his career,” returning as The Grabber, now seeking vengeance from beyond the grave. This time, the sadistic specter turns his attention to Finn’s younger sister Gwen, played by Madeleine McGraw, while the original protagonist, Finn (Mason Thames), tries to keep her safe.
The sequel’s roster adds several notable names: Demián Bichir appears as a summer-camp supervisor caught in The Grabber’s orbit. Arianna Rivas plays his niece. Miguel Mora takes on the role of a brother mourning one of The Grabber’s past victims. Series veteran Jeremy Davies returns as Finn and Gwen’s troubled father, Terrence. Maev Beaty and Graham Abbey round out the fresh faces.
Jason Blum produces alongside Derrickson and Cargill, with Adam Hendricks and Ryan Turek executive producing. Universal Pictures will release the film worldwide on October 17, 2025.

The original “Black Phone” became a surprise smash in 2021, turning a modest $16-18 million budget into more than $161 million at the global box office. With Hawke stepping back into his nightmarish mask and Derrickson raising the stakes, the sequel sets out to prove The Grabber’s haunting hold on audiences is far from over.
