*The BET Awards have long stood as one of the most impactful celebrations of Black culture, creativity, and excellence. Every year, the BET Awards bring together the biggest stars in music, film, sports, and entertainment to honor achievements that often go unrecognized by mainstream award ceremonies.
More than just an awards show, the BET Awards are a cultural moment, a vibrant expression of Black joy, resilience, and representation.
This year, BET celebrated 25 years of not only the awards but also one of BET’s most influential shows, 106 & Park. In a nostalgic twist, the show also paid homage to 106 & Park, with a tribute bringing out past hosts and artists who helped shape the show’s legacy.
Ashanti, B2K, Mya, and Mr 106 & Park himself, Bow Wow, hit the stage in a high-energy medley that had the crowd on their feet. It wasn’t just a throwback; it was a poignant reminder of how impactful 106 & Park was in launching careers, shaping youth culture, and keeping Black music at the forefront.

The tribute wasn’t the only piece of nostalgia. Legends Jamie Foxx, Snoop Dogg, Kirk Franklin & Mariah Carey were honored with the Ultimate Icon Award, accompanied by performances of their greatest hits.
Each one of these artists has made major contributions to music, but it was Jamie Foxx’s speech that moved the crowd the most.
He recounted the events he went through, surviving his stroke. In his tearful speech, he thanked his sister, daughters, and the prayers of the Black community.
Although the award show is the main event, the red carpet is also a show in itself. To honor the 25th anniversary, this year’s carpet theme was black tie, and everybody showed up and showed out!
The interviews feel more like conversations among cousins than stuffy press moments. I was on the carpet having a time with my cousins.

“You know the first thing I’m going to say to you, cousin!” Said Porcha Coleman (Divorced Sistas) while talking about having the best playlist at the cookout.
During the red carpet interviews, we talk about more than just the awards; we focus on the culture as well. And we also focus on Black Excellence.
When I asked singer/actor Miles Canton (Sinners) what Black Excellence meant to him, this was his response.
“Black excellence means everything. We’re the trendsetters. We’re great in everything that we do. I’m proud to be black!”
Aside from the hype of the performances and awards, the BET Awards have also used their platform for purpose. From spotlighting social justice movements to uplifting stories that deserve more attention. Like this year’s collaboration with HBCUs to showcase the greatness and necessity of Historically Black Colleges & Universities. The BET Awards are the epitome of Black Excellence. It’s a space where joy and advocacy can exist side by side, reminding audiences that celebration can be revolutionary.
