*Apple TV+ has dropped the official trailer for “Murderbot,” its highly anticipated sci-fi thriller-comedy series based on Martha Wells’ acclaimed “The Murderbot Diaries.” Set to premiere globally on Friday, May 16, with the first two episodes, the 10-episode series will roll out weekly every Friday through July 11.
Front and center is Emmy Award winner Alexander Skarsgård, who stars as the titular Murderbot and also serves as executive producer. Known for his riveting performances in “Succession” and “Big Little Lies,” Skarsgård takes on an entirely new kind of role–one that blends dry wit, high-stakes action, and existential angst.
The series follows a self-aware, rogue security android that has hacked its governing protocols. Though designed for combat, Murderbot wants nothing more than to be left alone to binge-watch futuristic soap operas. But when a high-risk mission threatens the lives of its human clients, it must pretend to still be under corporate control while secretly navigating its own complex emotions and sense of identity.
The ensemble cast features an eclectic mix of talent, including Noma Dumezweni, David Dastmalchian, Sabrina Wu, Akshay Khanna, Tattiawna Jones, and Tamara Podemski.

Created by Academy Award-nominated filmmakers Chris and Paul Weitz, “Murderbot” brings their signature blend of humor and heart to the realm of science fiction. The duo wrote, directed, and executive produced the series through their Depth of Field banner, alongside executive producer Andrew Miano. Genre heavyweight David S. Goyer (Foundation, The Dark Knight) also executive produces with Keith Levine for Phantom Four, while author Martha Wells contributes as a consulting producer.
With its smart blend of satire, suspense, and social commentary, Murderbot promises to deliver a fresh and thought-provoking take on what it means to be human—or something close to it.
Watch the trailer now and prepare to meet your new favorite reluctant hero when Murderbot premieres May 16 on Apple TV+.
