*Fans finally got their first look at HBO’s upcoming “Game of Thrones” prequel, “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” during New York Comic Con.
Winter Is Coming reports that series creators George R.R. Martin and Ira Parker joined stars Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell—who portray Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg—on stage to debut the teaser trailer. The network confirmed the show will premiere Sunday, January 18, 2026, at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and HBO Max.

The trailer offers a glimpse into Westeros, signaling a lighter shift from the darker tone of “Game of Thrones” and “House of the Dragon.” Based on George R.R. Martin’s “The Tales of Dunk & Egg” novellas, the first season adapts “The Hedge Knight.” The story follows Ser Duncan and Egg as they travel to a grand tournament at Ashford Meadow in the Reach. The trailer showcases key scenes from the book, including the Trail of Seven, a starry wish, and Tanselle’s puppet show, highlighting the production’s dedication to authenticity and tone.
According to the official series logline, “A century before the events of ‘Game of Thrones,’ two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg.” The story unfolds during a time when “the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory.”
The six-episode series features an ensemble cast including Daniel Ings, Bertie Carvel, Danny Webb, Sam Spruell, and Tanzyn Crawford. As anticipation builds, fans can look forward to a faithful yet fresh journey through the Seven Kingdoms when “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms” arrives in 2026. Watch the teaser trailer above.
