*Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz topped Netflix’s charts this week with their new spy movie, “Back in Action.”
Deadline reports that from January 13 to 19, the film garnered an impressive 46.8 million views, making it the platform’s most-watched title during that period. It dethroned “The Secret Life of Pets 2” from the top spot on the English films list. Netflix also revealed that “Back in Action” had the strongest opening weekend for an English-language film since “The Adam Project.”
Meanwhile, as we reported earlier, it’s been nearly a decade since Diaz last appeared on the big screen, and she’s making her return with “Back in Action,” reuniting with her Foxx, with whom she co-starred in “Any Given Sunday” and “Annie.”
Per Netflix, Foxx and Diaz play seemingly average parents with a big secret: They used to be incredibly skilled secret agents.
“We’re on a mission, and we take this opportunity where people might think we’re dead, to disappear off the face of the planet and start a new life and raise our family,” Diaz told Netflix.

Here’s the synopsis: Years after giving up life as CIA spies to start a family, Emily and Matt find themselves dragged back into the world of espionage when their cover is blown. Back in Action is directed by Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses, Baywatch), from a script he co-wrote with Brendan O’Brien.
The movie also stars Kyle Chandler, Glenn Close, Andrew Scott, Jamie Demetriou, McKenna Roberts, and Rylan Jackson.
Filming for the movie began in late 2022 and extended into January 2024. Production gained attention in April 2023 when Foxx experienced a medical emergency on set that temporarily halted shooting. Following his hospitalization, he returned to the set in January. “For Jamie, the show must go on and he has always been eager to see this project completed,” an insider told PEOPLE
