*Duchess Meghan Markle is pushing back against online criticism following the release of a throwback video featuring her and Prince Harry dancing in a hospital room.
The video, shared on Instagram to celebrate daughter Lilibet’s fourth birthday on June 4, captures a lighthearted moment from Markle’s pregnancy in 2021. In the clip, the couple attempts to induce labor with a playful dance to Starrkeisha’s “Baby Momma.”
Markle clarified the video’s context on the“Aspire” podcast, telling host Emma Grede, “By the way, that wasn’t yesterday. That was four years ago. So it’s also a really great reminder that, with all the noise or whatever people do, there’s still a whole life. A real, authentic, fun life that’s happening behind the scenes.”
She emphasized her desire for authenticity, stating, “You have to be authentic.” Grede expressed support, admitting she “did a little secret cheer” for Markle, adding, “Like, I wanna see that happiness and that honesty and that ‘I don’t give a f–k’ kind of thing.”

The video, which shows Markle in a hospital gown and Prince Harry in casual attire, was initially captioned by the Duchess: “Four years ago today, this also happened. Both of our children were a week past their due dates… so when spicy food, all that walking, and acupuncture didn’t work – there was only one thing left to do! ?.”
While some fans found the video endearing, others on platforms like X (formerly Twitter) labeled it “cringe and embarrassing,” “tacky,” and “fake and cringe.”
One critic lamented, “Good grief, these people have titles. Ruining the reputation and respect of the Royal Family, one Instagram post at a time.”
Markle’s friend, Christopher Bouzy, defended the couple, telling Newsweek, “Imagine, for a moment, what it would feel like to have some of the happiest and most vulnerable moments of your life turned into ammunition for hate.”
He also slammed conspiracy theories regarding Markle’s pregnancies, stating, “Every maternity dress and every baby video becomes ‘evidence’ for strangers obsessively trying to prove your pregnancies were a sham. It is sickening and cruel.”
