*YouTube star Jake Paul will battle Mike Tyson next week when they headline a must-see boxing mega-event streaming live on Netflix in five languages from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Per Netflix’s Tudum: “Tyson’s last official match took place in 2005. After a 15-year hiatus, Tyson returned to the ring for an exhibition match against Roy Jones Jr. in 2020. The fight went the full eight rounds and ended in a draw.”
“I feel great and training is going very well,” Tyson tells Tudum. “I’m well prepared and will knock out Jake Paul in glorious fashion.”
Ultimately, the battle will demonstrate Tyson’s enduring skills and power.
“[I’m doing it] because I can,” Tyson says. “Who else can do it but me? Just look at it. Who else is he gonna fight to make this happen?”
EUR’s Chris Richburg reported earlier that Netflix will release a docuseries leading up to the fight, on Nov. 7. The docuseries, titled “Countdown: Paul vs. Tyson,” will provide what USA Today calls “unprecedented insight” into Tyson’s journey while prepping his return to the ring. In turn, Paul’s preparation for his fight against Tyson will be captured as it offers “a perspective not seen before.”
Meanwhile, boxing promoter Bob Arum believes Tyson has “no chance” of beating Paul, 27, citing the significant 31-year age difference. The fight would set a record for the largest age gap between fighters in an official bout. As GBN reports, concerns have been raised about the risks Tyson faces at 58, with promoter Eddie Hearn calling the fight “dangerous” and “irresponsible.” Despite criticism, organizers expect a sell-out event, with Netflix hosting it as the streamer’s first live boxing event.
Arum, who once promoted Tyson, worries for the safety of the former undisputed heavyweight champion of the world.
“The answer is no [Tyson can’t beat Paul],” he said.
“A 58-year-old guy, no matter how good they were, no matter how athletic they were, are not gonna be able to fight,” he added.
The fight was initially set for July 20, but it was postponed after Tyson experienced an ulcer flare-up while on a plane.
“My body is in better overall shape than it has been since the 1990s, and I will be back to my full training schedule soon,” Tyson stated previosuly. “Jake Paul, this may have bought you some time, but in the end, you will still be knocked out and out of boxing for good. I appreciate everyone’s patience and can’t wait to deliver an unforgettable performance later this year.”
