*South Carolina Senator Tim Scott is targeting the increasing demographic of Black voters open to voting for Trump in the presidential election, as indicated by recent polling data.

We reported earlier that Scott has launched a weekly video series, “America’s Starting Five,” featuring five Black Republican congressional lawmakers. The aim is to elevate Black conservatives’ visibility and engage with Black voters.

The first episode of the series, “America’s Starting Five,” challenged the stereotype that Black individuals are inherently aligned with the Democratic Party, The Hill reports.

“In the first episode, the group discusses Joe Biden’s ‘you ain’t Black’ comments, what it means to be a Black Republican, and the growing coalition of Black Republicans,” the video caption reads.

“Sen. Scott recognizes that he can draw people into the party, particularly Black men,” said a source familiar with the series’ planning, NBC News reports. This is an effort to highlight that.”

NBC polling data from 2023 reveals that among Black voters, men under 50 gave President Joe Biden the lowest ratings and rated Trump the highest, though most still held a negative view of Trump. Nearly 40% of these voters preferred Trump over Biden in a general election.

Recent surveys indicate that Trump is gaining more support from Black voters than ever, despite Biden maintaining a lead among Black voters.

Speculation is mounting over Trump’s potential choice of Scott as a running mate in the 2024 election.

“I believe that I create a red wave where we win back the Senate, we expand our majority in the House, and you do that by having the kind of candidate who — the literal truth of my life — destroys the lies of the radical left and creates a red wave,” Scott said at a campaign stop in October, per NBC News.

As NBC News points out, Trump seems aware of Scott’s potential. Last week, he invited Scott to speak at his Mar-a-Lago fundraiser, which included Trump’s main super PAC and other fundraising committees and reportedly raised $50 million.
