The ‘Squad’ is in Crisis Amid Competitive Primaries | VIDEO

*The House Democratic “Squad” is in crisis, with controversies, criminal investigations, and political peril, Politico reports.

“Without a doubt, it’s a different terrain at least for some of them than the last go-round,” Rep. Chuy Garcia (D-Ill.) said of the progressive lawmakers of color.

Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.), Cori Bush (D-Mo.), and Summer Lee (D-Pa.) are engaged in aggressive fundraising and are facing competitive primaries, according to the report.

Meanwhile, the Justice Department is investigating Bush’s campaign’s spending on security services. Bowman pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor for pulling a Capitol fire alarm; Tlaib was censured for statements about the Israel-Hamas war; and the GOP yanked Omar from a committee over her past comments about Israel,” Politico writes.

The outlet also notes that The Squad has “less influence in the House minority.”

Recently, the Squad has been critical of the Biden administration’s handling of the Israel/Gaza conflict.

American Israel Public Affairs Committee  “has targeted Squad members for their criticism of the Israeli government,” per Politico. The organization endorsed a primary challenger to Bowman.

“Americans across the country are strongly supporting pro-Israel Democrats and Republicans and are working to defeat anti-Israel candidates. Our activists are deeply engaged and energized given the critical stakes in this election for the pro-Israel movement,” said AIPAC spokesperson Marshall Wittmann.

Usamah Andrabi, a spokesperson for the Justice Democrats, said The Squad is unmoved by outside spending against its members.

“While our opponents at AIPAC rely on Donald Trump’s billionaire donors, our incumbents, who are Black and brown members of Congress from working class backgrounds, will continue to rely on the power of everyday people,” Andrabi said in a statement.

“I ran for Congress to serve the most marginalized people in my district to deal with the issue of concentrated poverty, to deal with the issue of climate justice, lack of access to affordable housing, all of the issues that the majority of Americans care about,” said Bowman. “Whoever the challenge is, whether it’s AIPAC or something else, I’m never going to be distracted from fighting for those issues.”
