*Will Smith attended the third Red Sea International Film Festival on Saturday, where he discussed the sequel to “I Am Legend” with Michael B. Jordan.
“I have a call with Michael B. Jordan tomorrow,” Smith said, according to The Hollywood Reporter. “I can’t tell you any more.”
We reported previously that filmmaker Akiva Goldsman said the sequel would follow the first film’s “alternate ending,” which appears on the DVD, where Smith’s character doesn’t die; instead — he’s brought back to life.
The events in “I Am Legend 2” occur years after the original.
“This will start a few decades later than the first,” Goldsman said. “That will be especially visual in New York. … I don’t know if they’ll climb up to the Empire State Building, but the possibilities are endless.”
Will Smith on fickle nature of fame: “Fame is a unique monster and I’ve had to be really careful. The sequel will follow Richard Matheson’s 1954 novella, according to Goldsman.
“So we are going with the mythology of the DVD version where my character lived,” Smith said during the Red Sea International Film Festival.
The actor also addressed his recent controversies, admitting he “made tons of mistakes” and that his mentor Quincy Jones “wants me to win as a human.”
“He is devoted to me as a human, not just as an artist.” Smith added.
