*Tina Knowles is responding after the Internet dug up her comment about soon-to-be ex-husband Richard Lawson in 2018, when the two were on the docuseries “Black Love.”
TMZ reported this week that Beyonce’s mom filed for divorce from Lawson on Wednesday, July 26, citing irreconcilable differences. The next day, the Internet got to work, digging for clues. What surfaced was a five-year-old clip from the former couple’s appearance on the OWN docuseries “Black Love,” which features both celebrity and non-celebrity couples talking about overcoming challenges in their relationships.
During their interview, Knowles used herself as an example of how feeling inner confidence and self worth helps to attract the right person.
“Is he perfect? Absolutely not, but he has a lot of the qualities that I love,” she said.
Lawson, seated next to her, looked confused and asked, “No?” referring to her notion that he isn’t perfect. Knowles, not backing down, rolled her eyes and confirmed, “No.”
The exchange was viewed by folks online as the moment it became apparent their marriage was shaky.

“It was at this point when I KNEW it wasn’t going to be long,” said one commenter. “You don’t humiliate someone like that. No one is perfect, and that look she gave told it all.”
“Is he perfect? Absolutely not. She f**ked him up with that one!” someone else responded. A third supporter claimed: “Look on his face while she was talking immediately spoke this will not last.”
“She had no respect for that man from the beginning!” wrote another. “Just cause she B mama. She can be wrong too! At this point, it’s her.”
Knowles has since shared a message on Instagram that appears to address the “perfection” she mentioned in the resurfaced “Black Love” clip. On Thursday, July 27, she posted a quote from actor Michael J. Fox that read: “I am careful not to confuse excellence with perfection. Excellence, I can reach for; perfection is God’s business.”
In the caption, Knowles explained: “Came across this quote this morning. I could not agree more with Micheal J Fox! I believe Any human being who thinks that they are perfect, or someone else could be perfect, is delusional!! I believe that Only God is perfect!”
