During a “Chelsea Dinner Party: My American Experience” segment, guest Regina King spoke about how her family originally lived in the South and then her mother relocated to Los Angeles, California. Twitter wasn’t feeling Jennifer Garner‘s follow-up question inquiring if Regina knew where her ancestors were from. People in the comment section didn’t care for her tone, and one person said, “I don’t think that she liked the idea that Regina said she was from LA. First of all what does her ancestors has to do with the initial question of “WHERE SHE WAS FROM” not the ancestors? Also pay attention to her face expression, sometimes that speaks more volumes than words. To me and again is my personal opinion but to me she tried to discredit Regina’s answer or the fact that she mentioned she was indeed born in LA and hit her with the whole ancestors’ nonsense.” However, another IG user came to Jennifer’s defense, “I love me some Regina King. I also had the pleasure of getting to know Jennifer Garner, who is a person that is so sweet and very interested in whoever she’s engaging within the most positive way. This clip doesn’t do her justice. I would have liked to have seen the whole show, but in my opinion she really wanted to know her heritage and ancestry and instead of avoiding what is most likely the answer from most of us black people, she shed light on it and made it a deeper conversation in the moment. I’m here for shedding light on ancestry. If there was any offense taken and that was expressed, I’m certain apologies would have been given without hesitation. Webbies, if you have thin skin, don’t ask kids questions if you can’t handle the truth. This half-pints level of honesty comes out straight with no chaser. A little girl is seen eating dinner and tells an unknown lady filming her; when she grows up, she doesn’t want to be a fat grown-up but a skinny one. The woman proceeds to ask her a follow-up question that she wasn’t prepared for, “Do you know any fat grown-ups?” The young girl cuts a side eye sharper than a samurai sword, gives a quick up and down look, and drops the mic with, “There’s one right in front of me.” Lissen, kids have yet to learn the acceptable etiquette of nuanced adult communication; when we ask you a question, we never want the truth; we prefer it sugar-coated, or we’ll receive it as a flat-out lie. People in the comments said she was disrespectful, but don’t step in the kitchen if you can’t handle the fire. But even as enlightened as we are, if she were our child…she’d be on punishment, bwahaha!
