*The third season of “Power Book III: Raising Kanan” debuted on STARZ on Dec. 1 and continues to tell the origin story of fan-favorite character Kanan Stark, originally played by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson in the flagship series.

Melanie Curtis stars as the devoted son of Raquel “Raq” Thomas (Patina Miller), and the third season “finds the Thomas family in turmoil and reeling from the Mob’s coordinated attack on Raquel last season,” per the official synopsis.

Miller told EUR exclusively that loyal “Power” franchise fans can “expect the unexpected” this season.

“There’s a lot of things happening this season that are out of her control,” Miller said of her character. “Her son is doing his own thing. She has to deal with her son and her baby daddy in alignment and what that means. Howard is not going away. They’re in this thing together where they have to keep their secret under wraps because Howard’s job is affected. It’s dangerous for everyone. If anything happens, they’re all less safe,” she explained.

“Season 2 ended rather dramatically,” showrunner and executive producer Sascha Penn stated to EUR exclusively. “I think some of Season 3 or a lot of Season 3 is a lot of our characters trying to reimagine themselves in light of how Season 2 ends. I think, especially in the case of Raq, there’s a real re-imagining that she has to do because things ended so dramatically. She finds herself facing this existential crisis of, who am I? What am I doing? Who am I as a mother? Who am I as a businesswoman?”

“I think that’s a lot of what we’re dealing with. It’s not restricted to Raq. It’s also the same thing with Jukebox, the same thing with Marvin. As I always say, this is a family drama,” Penn said.

“One of the real tensions that has always existed in the show is how our characters understand themselves individually and within the context of their family, which is very similar to the journey that all of us take on earth. Which is, we are our own people, and yet we’re part of this unit. That unit shapes us and pushes us around, and we have to figure out how to exist. That’s a big part of this series,” he explained.

Penn said this season will unpack how “Kanan becomes Kanan.”

I think one of the things that we always hear a lot is, well, we know how Kanan’s story ends. We know how Jukebox’s story ends. Is that a challenge? It is, but I think part of the joy of this show is explaining how they become who they become. There’s going to be some really interesting stuff in Season 3 that explains how Kanan becomes Kanan and Jukebox becomes Jukebox,” Penn revealed.

“Power Book III: Raising Kanan” is the second series in the expanded “Power” Universe franchise, executive produced by Courtney A. Kemp, and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson.

New “Raising Kanan” episodes premiere every Sunday at 9pm ET/PT.
