*Jeannie Mai is looking for a fresh start following her separation from rapper Jeezy.
“She’s trying her best to get her new life in order and start fresh,” a source shared with The Messenger. “Jeannie is currently looking at buying her own home in Los Angeles.”
As we reported, Jeezy filed for divorce in Atlanta, Georgia, on Sept. 14, after two-and-a-half years of marriage. According to People, the filing says the marriage is “irretrievably broken” with “no hope for reconciliation.”
The estranged couple is “currently living in a bona fide state of separation,” per the legal documents.
According to the insider, Mai spent most of the marriage in Atlanta with their daughter Monaco. She now wants to relocate to the City of Angels.
Jeezy and Jeannie reportedly had a prenuptial agreement in place. The hip-hop star wants to share joint legal custody of their daughter. The pair married in March 2021 and welcomed Monaco the following year.
One insider told ET that Jeezy and Jeannie’s opinions differed regarding “certain family values and expectations.”
Mai reportedly hired powerhouse attorney Randall Kessler to represent her in the divorce.
According to court documents obtained by RadarOnline.com, Kessler previously represented NeNe Leakes, Christian Milian, comedian Mike Epps, and Porsha Williams. His clients also include individuals who took legal action against Usher, Michael Jordan, T.I., and Ludacris.
“I’m not going to lie, it takes every day to just really sit and just be quiet in your thoughts, take care of me,” Mai said when asked about her divorce on Sherri Shepherd’s talk show, according to The Messenger. “But one thing I know, you give God your pain, He will give you His power. So every day I’m like, ‘Here you go. You got room for more? Here’s some more.'”
Mai added, “Turning off everything helps too. After that moment, I just turned off every single device in my house, and I just tuned in to the voices that I needed to hear, which is me and the truth.”
During a recent conversation with actress Nia Long, Jeezy explained why his marriage to Mai went south.
“This has not been an easy journey,” he shared, The Messenger reports. “I can tell you that I’m saddened, I’m disappointed. I can tell you that I’m uneasy. But again, God has put me in a different path, and that path is going to entail for me to take care of myself and to love myself and to be in the best situation that I can thrive as someone who’s been through all the things I’ve been through.”
