*Jeannie Mai denies “gatekeeping” the daughter she shares with her estranged husband, rapper Jeezy, amid their divorce.
We reported previously that the estranged couple’s informal agreement regarding parenting their daughter Monaco isn’t working, so Jeezy wants the court to intervene, The Blast reports.
The hip-hop star claims the former host of “The Real” acts like a “gatekeeper” whenever he wants to spend time with their child — but Mai denies this.
According to court documents obtained by Page Six, Mai insists she “remains committed to facilitating and encouraging” Jeezy’s involvement in the 1-year-old’s life.
“It is essential to clarify that Ms. Jenkins’ insistence on reasonable safety measures being put in place, such as safely securing and locking away all firearms that have been unsecure in the past, as well as having familiarity and properly trained caregivers is absolutely not gatekeeping, but rather a responsible effort to prioritize their daughter’s wellbeing,” the docs read.
Mai states in the court documents that she wants to “foster an open, supportive and safe environment for both parents to participate” actively in Monaco’s life.
It seems her main point of concern is Jeezy’s collection of firearms.
According to Page Six, she wants Jeezy to lock away all firearms “that have been unsecure in the past.”
“These requests are grounded in Ms. Jenkins’ genuine concern for the parties’ daughter’s safety and security, especially when under the care of others and traveling across the country, and are reasonable protective measures, not an attempt to restrict Mr. Jenkins’ access to their daughter,” the complaint states.
Jeezy filed for divorce in Atlanta, Georgia, on Sept. 14, after two-and-a-half years of marriage. According to People, the filing says the marriage is “irretrievably broken” with “no hope for reconciliation.”
