LAPD Says Deaths of 2 Models in DTLA Appear Unrelated | Video

*The Los Angeles Police Department said there is no connection between the death of two Black models found dead in their downtown apartments days apart.

As reported by KTLA.com, the body of Maleesa Mooney, 31, was found inside her unit at Skye at Bunker Hill luxury apartments on the 200 block of South Figueroa Street. Police are also investigating the death of model Nichole Coats, 32, whose body was also found dead inside her residence last week.

“Since both cases remain active investigations, details about either case will not be released,” the LAPD statement said, according to the Daily News. “However, based on the investigations thus far, there is no evidence to suggest that the deaths of Ms. Coats and Ms. Mooney are related to one another.”

When Coats last spoke with friends, she told them she was planning to go out on a date on Sept. 8. She didn’t respond to calls or texts in the following days, so her family visited her apartment complex on Eighth & Grand and made a grisly discover on Sept. 10.

“I couldn’t recognize her,” May Stevens, Coats’ aunt, recalled of the bloody scene, per KTLA. “I believe it was murder, I really do. One of her legs was up in the air in a kicking position. That’s not somebody who just laid in their bed and died.”

On Sept. 12, Mooney was found dead at her residence when police conducted a welfare check after she went missing in the days prior.

The death of Mooney has reportedly been deemed a murder, while that of Coats is being classified as a “suspicious” incident.

Guyanese pop singer Jourdin Pauline is Mooney’s sister and she posted a tribute to her slain sibling on Instagram, Daily News reports

“My heart is crushed, I can’t believe you won’t be here with us anymore. You were so loving and so kind to everyone. You made sure if you ate everyone around you was too. You opened your arms to people who didn’t deserve you as a friend. You’re the best thing to happen to almost everyone’s lives you touched,” Pauline wrote.

She added, “The reason I’m me is because of you!!! … My first best friend the one who taught me everything I know!!!!! How is this even possible you won’t be here. … This feels so surreal. I keep waking up crying thinking I’m in a bad dream. We will get justice for you my sister. I promise you won’t be gone in vain!!!”
