*Angela Bassett has joined the A-list cast of Netflix’s upcoming limited series “Zero Day.”

Robert De Niro also stars in the political thriller alongside an ensemble cast that includes Dan Stevens, Matthew Modine, Bill Camp, McKinley Belcher III, Lizzy Caplan, Jesse Plemons, Joan Allen, and Connie Britton — with Clark Gregg, Gaby Hoffmann, and Mark Ivanir in guest starring roles.

The project marks De Niro’s first lead TV role of his career. The legendary actor will portray beloved former President Mullen, who leaves retirement to lead a commission investigating a potential world crisis. Bassett stars as President Mitchell, a brilliant and wise political tactician with an allegiance to Mullen.

Per Netflix, here’s the show’s logline, “Zero Day asks the question on everyone’s mind: How do we find truth in a world in crisis, one seemingly being torn apart by forces outside our control? And in an era rife with conspiracy theory and subterfuge, how much of those forces are products of our own doing, perhaps even of our own imagining?” Read on to meet the key players in the new conspiracy thriller.”

“Zero Day” is directed and executive-produced by Lesli Linka Glatter (Homeland).

The six-episode series is created and executive produced by Eric Newman (Griselda, The Watcher, Narcos, Narcos: Mexico), Noah Oppenheim (Jackie, The Thing About Pam, The Maze Runner), and Pulitzer Prize winner Michael S. Schmidt.

“As a lifelong fan of American cinema, no actor looms larger for me than Robert De Niro,” Newman told Netflix.

Oppenheim added, “To see this ripped-from-reality thriller come to life, starring the legendary Robert De Niro, is more than we could have hoped.”

“Zero Day” does not yet have a release date but is expected to drop in 2024.

In related news, Netflix recently released the “Damsel” teaser trailer starring Bassett and Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things).

The movie from Oscar-nominated filmmaker Juan Carlos Fresnadillo “flips the script on the traditional fairy tale as a princess whose happily ever after is brutally interrupted when her Prince Charming sacrifices her to a dragon,” per Netflix’s news release.

“This is a journey that’s going to take you into a universe that you thought you knew. But we are discovering a new take on fairy tales and fantasy adventures,” Fresnadillo said.

“Damsel” hits Netflix in 2024. Watch the teaser below.
