*Kanye West, who now goes by Ye, has publicly apologized for years of antisemitic comments and controversial behavior in a full-page ad published in the Wall Street Journal under the heading “To Those I’ve Hurt.”
In his statement, West linked his actions to mental health challenges, revealing he wasn’t accurately diagnosed with bipolar disorder until 2023. He also raised the possibility that lingering trauma from a 2002 car accident that shattered his jaw may have played a role in his condition. Looking back on recent years, he stated, “I lost touch with reality. Things got worse the longer I ignored the problem.”
West explained that during manic episodes, a person’s ability to think clearly becomes compromised and their perception of the world warps. “You feel like you’re seeing the world more clearly than ever, when in reality you’re losing your grip entirely,” he stated, noting that being dismissed as “crazy” can leave someone feeling as though they have nothing valuable to offer.

He confronted his use of Nazi symbolism head-on, admitting he sold items with swastikas and participated in other antisemitic acts. West explained that during this “fractured state,” he was drawn to harmful imagery, but insisted, “I am not a Nazi or an antisemite. I love Jewish people.”
West also extended an apology to the Black community, describing it as central to his identity. “I am so sorry to have let you down. I love us,” he stated, recognizing their unwavering support over the years.
The hip-hop star revealed that a four-month manic episode last year nearly ruined his life and brought him to a point where he “didn’t want to be here anymore.” West credited his wife, Bianca Censori, with pushing him to get professional help during his darkest moment.
He shared that he’s now pursuing stability through medication, therapy, physical fitness, and healthier habits. West added that reading others’ experiences on Reddit showed him he wasn’t struggling alone.
In his closing remarks, West said he’s channeling his energy into constructive, creative projects and requested understanding as he works toward recovery. “I write today simply to ask for you patience and understanding as I find my way home.”
