*Marvel’s decision to cancel “Wonder Man” came after scripts were written, schedules were cleared and production plans were already taking shape, according to co-creator and showrunner Andrew Guest.
Days after Disney and Marvel reversed the renewal decision, Guest addressed the cancellation in a video, saying he wanted to dispel many of the rumors circulating online, Deadline reports.
“I just wanna say, I’ve been listening,” Guest said. “I appreciate you all, how you all feel, and I just want to clear up what I can here.”
Guest shut down speculation that the move was part of a larger strategy.

“This is not a marketing stunt. There is no movie in the works. And Destin’s schedule, no one’s schedule was an issue,” he said. “Yahya, Destin, Sir Ben and I all loved making this show, all felt passionately about continuing to do it, and were eager to.”
According to Guest, the series was already moving toward production. Contracts had been finalized, cast schedules had been coordinated, the writers’ room was expected to open this month, and filming was scheduled to begin early next year.
“There was a decision made internally between Disney and Marvel that this didn’t make sense for them, even though a few months ago it did,” Guest said. “And that’s essentially all I really know. Numbers aren’t really shared with me.”
The reversal came after Marvel had publicly renewed the Disney+ series for a second season in March. Guest revealed the creative team had already made significant progress, including completing the script for the Season 2 premiere and mapping out the broader story.
“I had written the first episode of Season 2, and we had an outline for where the season would go, and everyone felt really good about it,” he said. “It was gonna be a really incredible season that hopefully surpassed Season 1.”
Lead star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II also addressed the news after the cancellation became public.
“Word just dropped that ‘Wonder Man’ won’t be coming back for Season 2. (And if you don’t knowww, now ya knoww! 😬) That’s life, right? Everything will shake out,” he wrote on Instagram.
The announcement came just weeks after Abdul-Mateen earned an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his performance as aspiring actor Simon Williams. The series debuted all eight episodes on Jan. 27 and generated 618 million viewing minutes during its first week, according to Nielsen.
