*Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard suffered a shocking defeat in Tuesday’s Democratic primary, losing to challenger Jason House by a wide margin. House secured 87.91% of the vote, receiving 3,896 votes to Henyard’s 536, according to the Cook County Clerk’s Office.
During her campaign, Henyard highlighted her achievements, including infrastructure improvements and securing millions in grant funding for the village. In a last-minute push, she went live on Facebook urging residents to vote, and expressing confidence in her re-election.
“We’re almost to the finish line,” she said. “One hour left before we make history once again in the village of Dolton and take this by a landslide.”
However, the election results told a different story. Following the loss, Henyard acknowledged the outcome, telling WGN-TV, “The people have spoken. God must have a different plan.”

“We had one rogue individual,” House told CBS Chicago referring to Henyard. “I’m sure Dolton is proud, and we are happy that we are ready to change the narrative.”
He added, “For the last four years, she was taking us in the wrong direction. The board saw that … Anybody that goes off in the wrong direction needs to be corrected.”
Henyard, who made history as Dolton’s first and youngest female mayor, has faced intense scrutiny during her time in office. She clashed frequently with the village’s Board of Trustees, who accused her of financial mismanagement. Amid mounting concerns, the board hired former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot to conduct an investigation.
Lightfoot’s report, released last month, detailed questionable financial practices, including $775,000 in credit card spending in 2023 alone. Among the charges were $200,000 on Amazon purchases, $117,000 in travel expenses, and $48,000 for an ice rink—reportedly made without board approval or competitive bidding. Lightfoot recommended increased financial transparency and stricter spending policies moving forward.
House said Henyard’s controversial tenure “does not represent Dolton.”
