*Former Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard said her father remains in critical condition after a shooting in Chicago, an incident that has led her to push for a broader response to violence in the city. The development has drawn attention not only for its personal impact but also for its political implications.
According to authorities, the 65-year-old was wounded by gunfire in a North Lawndale alley on the West Side. The shooting happened along South Kedzie Avenue shortly before 6 p.m., and he was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he is being treated for serious injuries. Police have yet to take anyone into custody as they continue working to determine what led to the attack.
Henyard addressed the incident in a Facebook post: “My father, my hero, was an innocent victim of this random and heartbreaking violence, she wrote. “This tragedy has shaken my family to its core and unfortunately it reflects a reality that far too many families across our state are facing.”
In the aftermath, Henyard directed her message to JB Pritzker and Brandon Johnson, encouraging them to revisit their position on federal assistance. She specifically referenced Donald Trump’s offer, pointing to examples where such partnerships have been implemented.

“Across the country, communities that have welcomed federal support have experienced measurable reductions in crime. Cities such as Memphis, Tennessee; Washington, D.C. and New Orleans, Louisiana during the 2026 Mardi Gras period have all seen positive outcomes through collaboration efforts,” she stated.
Her comments arrive amid ongoing debate surrounding the use of federal resources, including National Guard deployments, which have produced mixed reactions and outcomes in different cities.
The situation also comes as Henyard continues a political transition. After losing her reelection bid in 2025 following scrutiny over her leadership, she moved to Georgia and changed party affiliation. She is now campaigning as a Republican for a seat on the Fulton County Board of Commissioners.
