*Former Bad Boy rapper Shyne—born Moses Michael Levi Barrow—is not backing off his recent explosive comments about Brandy. In a new interview and series of social media posts, the now ex-Belizean politician and ex-convict is doubling down, accusing the R&B icon of lying to the public multiple times.
The renewed feud, which dates back to the infamous 1999 Club New York shooting that sent Shyne to prison for nearly a decade, has now drawn in Ray J, Brandy’s brother, who unleashed a profanity-laced response vowing to “slap the daylights” out of anyone disrespecting his sister.
Shyne’s Latest Statements
In a recent interview with TMZ—clips of which have been widely shared on X and Instagram—Shyne addressed backlash over his earlier claim that Brandy “played a role” in the 1999 nightclub shooting that left a woman paralyzed and ultimately sent him to prison.
“She has lied to the public before,” Shyne told TMZ. “Let’s be real. She’s not innocent in how this whole narrative has been shaped. I’m not gonna sit here and let people rewrite history to protect her image.”

He went on to reference Brandy’s past controversies, including her 2002 car accident, where she was involved in a fatal crash but was not criminally charged. He also pointed to alleged inconsistencies in her accounts of the 1999 shooting night. Shyne has long claimed Brandy was driving recklessly, contributing to the chaos, though official reports placed him as the shooter.
“She’s been protected by the industry for years,” Shyne added. “I’m just speaking facts.”
On X, he posted similar messages, writing: “Brandy lied then, she lying now. The truth don’t change because time passed. #FactsOverFeelings”
Background & Ongoing Feud
The 1999 Club New York shooting remains one of hip-hop’s most infamous moments. Shyne, then 21, was involved in a shooting that left a woman paralyzed. Brandy was in the vehicle but was never charged. Shyne served nearly 10 years in prison before being deported to his native Belize, where he later entered politics.
Over the years, Shyne has periodically revisited the incident, claiming media and industry bias protected Brandy and Jay-Z—who was also present—while vilifying him. Brandy has never directly responded to Shyne’s recent claims; her team has either stayed silent or dismissed them as “old news.”
Ray J Responds
The tension escalated when Ray J entered the fray. In a profanity-laced video posted to social media—since deleted but widely reposted—Ray J addressed Shyne, Ma$e, and Cam’ron, who had discussed Brandy on their podcast It Is What It Is.
“Keep my sister’s name out of your mouth, and if not, I’m gonna slap the fking daylights out of you when I see you,” Ray J said in the video. “One thing nas ain’t gonna do is talk st about my sister without me going back on these big head ass nas.”
He continued: “Shyne, Ma$e, and Cam… I never had a problem with them, but I saw some st today where they gotta know that a n*a gonna come back strong.”
Ray J’s reaction was triggered by podcast clips from It Is What It Is where Shyne and Ma$e laughed about allegedly dating Brandy around the same time in the past.
Brandy’s Response
Amid the growing firestorm, Brandy issued a rare statement distancing herself from her brother’s threats.
“While I love my brother Ray J, I don’t condone or support the messages he’s shared on social media and have not asked him to defend me in any form,” she said.
She also denied ever dating Shyne, clarifying: “It was only a platonic friendship.”
Shyne’s Follow-Up
Shyne responded briefly on Instagram, clarifying his own remarks about the dating rumors.
“Let the record reflect I DID NOT ‘HIT IT FIRST’ ……. Most respectfully @masonbetha @mr_camron @itiswhatitis_talk,” he wrote, posting a photo of himself with Brandy and Ray J, soundtracked to Ray J’s own song “I Hit It First.”
Reactions & Ongoing Drama
The reactions have been divided. Brandy’s fans, known as The Army, have accused Shyne of clout-chasing and “harassing” Brandy decades after the fact. Shyne’s supporters argue he is finally telling “his truth” after years of silence. Neutral observers call it a tired beef that resurfaces every few years without new evidence.
As of now, no legal action has been reported from Brandy’s side. The situation remains a social media back-and-forth, with no physical confrontation reported—at least not yet.
For now, the decades-old wounds from Club New York have been reopened, and with Ray J threatening violence and Shyne refusing to back down, this feud shows no signs of cooling off.
