*Ashlee Jenae’s family is navigating both heartbreak and hardship, launching a fundraising campaign to bring her remains back to the United States after her unexpected death abroad.
Her father, Harry Robinson, has launched a GoFundMe campaign seeking $50,000 to help cover the costs of repatriation and the ongoing complexities of an investigation in Tanzania, TMZ reports. Ashlee Robinson, who legally went by Ashly Robinson, had traveled to Zanzibar with her fiancé, Joe McCann, to celebrate her 31st birthday. The couple had become engaged just days before her death.
According to authorities, a dispute broke out between the pair during the trip, leading hotel staff at the luxury Zuri Zanzibar resort to separate them into different rooms. It was following that separation, authorities allege, that Ashlee hanged herself inside a wardrobe using a piece of cloth from her dress. She was found unconscious and rushed to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead on April 10. Police have since ruled out foul play, and McCann is neither detained nor considered a suspect.

When TMZ sat down with Ashlee’s parents — Harry and Yolanda, joined by their respective partners — the family described a near-total communications blackout from Joe. He contacted them just once, nearly half a day after Ashlee had been hospitalized, offering reassurances but she ultimately passed away. The family says he has not reached out since.
They are now seeking access to the resort’s surveillance footage in order to reconstruct a clearer timeline of what happened. While some local accounts suggest suicide, her family strongly disputes that conclusion, saying she showed no signs that she intended to harm herself. At this time, no official cause of death has been released.
