*Fans of “The Chi” can rejoice as Paramount+ with SHOWTIME officially announcing the return of the hit drama series for its seventh season.
The highly anticipated new season will premiere on-demand and via streaming for Paramount+ subscribers with the Paramount+ with SHOWTIME plan on Friday, May 16. The series will then make its on-air debut on Sunday, May 18, at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
Per the news release, season seven promises an electrifying shift as Alicia takes control, setting the stage for a dramatic power struggle among the pivotal women of “The Chi.” As new rivalries ignite and loyalties are tested, one thing is certain—only one person can wear the crown, and it will come at a steep price. The upcoming season will explore deeper themes of empowerment, ambition, and the relentless pursuit of control in Chicago’s South Side.

With an ever-growing fan base, “The Chi” continues to break records. Season six became the most-watched season yet on streaming, boasting an impressive 25% increase in viewership over season five. The show’s cultural impact is undeniable, further solidified by a recent NAACP Image® Award win for series regular Lynn Whitfield, along with a nomination for a GLAAD® Media Award.
An Acclaimed Creative Team
The Emmy®-winning Lena Waithe (Twenties, Master of None) returns as creator and executive producer under her Hillman Grad banner, alongside co-showrunners and executive producers Justin Hillian and Jewel Coronel. Academy Award® and Emmy winner Common (Selma) also serves as an executive producer, bringing his creative vision to the evolving narrative. The show is produced entirely in its namesake city of Chicago by 20th Television.

The returning main cast includes Jacob Latimore, Lynn Whitfield, Yolonda Ross, Shamon Brown Jr., Michael V. Epps, Birgundi Baker, and Luke James. Naomi Funabashi and Rishi Rajani oversee production for Hillman Grad.
