*Sade, the soulful voice behind 1980s hits like “Smooth Operator,” has retreated from the spotlight to embrace a tranquil life on a Somerset farm in the UK’s West Country.
Once a global star with her band Sade, the Grammy-winning artist now cherishes privacy, living far from the bustle of fame, PEOPLE reported in 2020. During the COVID lockdown, the superstar shared this serene world with British Vogue, photographed alongside her goddaughter Leah on the farm where they weathered the pandemic.
In the August 2020 issue, Sade reflected on her journey, saying, “Like everyone, we’re on a ship of unknown destination but that’s life … no mutiny yet.” Her rural haven has sparked new passions, from cooking to songwriting. “There’s always so much to do: there are songs I so want to write, and I’ve rediscovered the joy cooking brings,” she shared, highlighting a balance between creativity and simplicity.
Despite her reclusive lifestyle, Sade remains musically active. In 2024, she released “Young Lion,” following her 2018 single “Flower of the Universe” for Disney’s “A Wrinkle in Time.” The latter marked her first original film contribution since 1986’s “Killer Blow” for “Absolute Beginners.” Her 2010 album “Soldier of Love,” which followed 2000’s “Lovers Rock,” underscored her pattern of deliberate, spaced-out releases that keep fans eagerly awaiting more.
Sade’s shift from international tours to rural serenity showcases her desire for authenticity over celebrity. While she avoids the public eye, her farm life fuels both personal fulfillment and artistic inspiration, proving that even in quiet moments, her creative spirit thrives.
