*The 17th season of “RuPaul’s Drag Race“ is shaping up to be one of its most dazzling yet, with a star-studded lineup of guest judges including Katy Perry, Quinta Brunson, Adam Lambert, and Tracee Ellis Ross, alongside RuPaul and the beloved panel of Michelle Visage, Carson Kressley, Ross Mathews, and Ts Madison.
Season 17 of the Emmy Award-winning series returns Friday, January 3rd at 8:00 PM ET/PT on MTV with 90-minute episodes.
The new season promises jaw-dropping looks, fierce competition, and even a fresh twist—offering queens a chance at immunity from elimination. In my exclusive interview, I caught up with contestants Jewels Sparkles, Hormona Lisa, and Crystal Envy to discuss the unique vibe of this season, the cast dynamic, and how it all plays out in the competition.
The queens said this season features “some sickening, some very fierce twists…you are going to be shook and gagged, and you’re probably gonna die from the gaggery that is about to happen on the screen on January 3rd with this sickening twist. And then after you die, you’ll be resuscitated because we gave you life.”
Jewels Sparkles described the energy this season as “chaotic.”

“I feel like everyone is at 100% of their personality. Like if someone’s chaotic, they’re very chaotic. If someone’s a bitch, they’re very bitchy. And if someone’s insane, they’re just very insane. So it just created a lot of chaos,” Jewels revealed.
Per the news release: “This season, 14 dazzling new queens enter the Werk Room to compete for the title of “America’s Next Drag Superstar” and a cash prize of $200,000 for the winner, sponsored by TodayTix, the theater ticket app. In the premiere episode, the new cast of queens will compete in “Drag Queens Got Talent” and this season will bring back the gag-worthy “Rate-A-Queen” scoring system, but with an all-new twist.”
“…the runways this season were some of the best runways and looks that have ever been on this franchise,” said Crystal Envy. “We had so many different diverse queens in terms of look queens, campy queens, fashion queens, and they all blew it out of the park.”
