*Pharrell Williams is making it clear: he wants no part in politics.
Speaking at Miami-Dade County’s fifth annual Black Ambition Demo Day, the producer and entrepreneur shared his strong views on the current political climate, Hot 97 reports. “I hate politics, like despise them,” he said, calling the political arena a “magic trick” and describing the system that encourages division as “not real.”
While accepting a key to the city, Williams told the crowd he doesn’t “believe in any side” and explained, “I think when you pick a side, you are inadvertently supporting division.”

Williams also challenged the idea of identity-based support in business. “Do you want the job because you’re Black or because you’re the best?” he asked. He argued that support should be based on merit, not race or political affiliation. “Now that diversity is off the table, now that equity is off the table, now inclusion is off the table…that makes me ask myself, so how do we survive?”
His solution is to focus on excellence. “If diversity, equity, and inclusion never come back in style, cool. But in the meantime, I’m going to focus on being the best because I can bank on that.”
Despite his aversion to political discourse, Williams emphasized his commitment to progress. “I care about my people and I care about the country, but I feel there’s a lot of work that needs to be done, and I’m really about the action.”
