*What: The week before Mother’s day, organizations in dozens of cities across the country will bail out as many mothers as possible who otherwise would spend Mother’s Day in a cell simply because they cannot afford bail.
The National Black Mama’s Bail Out will give incarcerated mothers an opportunity to spend Mother’s Day with their families and build community through gatherings that highlight the impact of inhumane and destructive bail practices on our communities.
The National Black Mama’s Bail Out will also highlight ongoing organizing in communities across the country calling on district attorneys, judges, and legislators and other elected official to end money bail.
Last year’s donations helped to reunite nearly 100 incarcerated Black moms with their families ahead of Mother’s Day

More About The National Black Mama’s Bail Out:
The National Black Mama’s Bail Out is a project of the National Bail Out Collective. The National Bail Out collective consists of nearly two dozen Black local and regional base-building groups as well as four national organizations with specialties in communication, digital organizing, cultural change and policy reform. We are committed to building a community-based movement to end pretrial detention and ultimately mass incarceration. The Mama’s Day action is rooted in the tradition of our enslaved ancestors who went to every length, including harnessing their collective resources, to purchase each other’s freedom and keep their families together. This year, we are taking a stand against a money bail system that tears our families apart and punishes our loved ones for being poor. For more, visit www.nomoremoneybail.org
