*Maurice Johnson is clearing up the speculation surrounding his exit from “Beyond the Gates.”
The actor, who played Ted Richardson on the CBS soap opera, recently addressed rumors that he was fired. His departure raised eyebrows after he was abruptly replaced by Keith D. Robinson just a month into his role. As we reported earlier, Ted is a highly skilled plastic surgeon and the husband of Dr. Nicole Dupree. His presence has added depth to the show, making his sudden recasting a topic of discussion among fans. Recasting in soap operas is not uncommon, often due to scheduling conflicts, creative decisions, or personal reasons.
The news of Robinson stepping into the role was first reported by Deadline and later confirmed by the actor himself on Instagram. He shared a heartfelt post thanking his supporters and the show’s production team, writing, ”. . . .This is gonna be a fun ride. . . .Special Thanks to @sheiladucks @cbstv @naacp @beyondthegatescbs @pakulaking @vaultentertainmentgroup and the friends, family, prayer warriors that hold me down on this crazy journey called show business. Glad to be the topic of your daily water cooler conversations along with my talented comrades.”
As Coming Soon reports. some speculated that tensions with co-star Daphnée Duplaix or concerns about his performance led to his exit. However, Johnson took to social media to set the record straight. He dismissed claims of a feud with Duplaix or any issues with his acting. He specifically called out Sandra Rose, the alleged source of these rumors. He wrote on Threads, “From the horse’s mouth….neither are true, so whoever Sandra Rose is didn’t get this from CBS or my co-star. Please don’t spread bs that someone pulled out of the air.”
In a follow-up post, Johnson addressed the speculation, stating that he and Duplaix had a solid working relationship.

“The chemistry on screen reflects a lot, and it’s definitely not problems,” he wrote. “I’m just perplexed as to how one would automatically assume [a] professional, educated actor has on-set problems with the person who plays their spouse day in and day out. This is the problem when people want to be first and report something and start a whole narrative themselves.”
Johnson reassured fans that he still has several episodes left before his run ends.
“You’ll have about 30+ more episodes to see if Dr. Ted ever goes shirtless,” he tweeted. “I’ll be back on your screen on Thursday! Thanks for the love and blowing the internet up over the weekend about ya boy!”
Keith D. Robinson is set to make his debut as Ted Richardson in May.
“Beyonce the Gates” is CBS’ first one-hour daytime drama featuring an all-Black cast, including Tamara Tunie, Clifton Davis, Daphnee Duplaix, Karla Mosley, Alex Alegria, Lauren Buglioli, Brandon Claybon, Timon Kyle Durrett, Sean Freeman, Ben Gavin, Marquita Goings, Jibre Hordges, Jen Jacob, Trisha Mann-Grant, Mike Manning, RhonniRose Mantilla, Ambyr Michelle, Colby Muhammad and Arielle Prepetit.
