*In an unexpected change, “Beyond the Gates” has recast the role of Ted Richardson, originally played by Maurice Johnson. Actor Keith D. Robinson will now portray the character, though the reason for the switch remains undisclosed.
Ted Richardson is a highly skilled plastic surgeon and the husband of Dr. Nicole Dupree. His presence has added depth to the show, making his sudden recasting a topic of discussion among fans. While recasting in soap operas is not uncommon, often due to scheduling conflicts, creative decisions, or personal reasons, Johnson has not provided any details regarding his departure, Coming Soon reports.
The news of Robinson stepping into the role was first reported by Deadline and later confirmed by the actor himself on Instagram. He shared a heartfelt post thanking his supporters and the show’s production team, writing, ”. . . .This is gonna be a fun ride. . . .Special Thanks to @sheiladucks @cbstv @naacp @beyondthegatescbs @pakulaking @vaultentertainmentgroup and the friends, family, prayer warriors that hold me down on this crazy journey called show business. Glad to be the topic of your daily water cooler conversations along with my talented comrades.”

Here’s the official series synopsis:
BEYOND THE GATES is set in a leafy Maryland suburb just outside of Washington, D.C., and in one the most affluent African American counties in the United States. Here you’ll find a posh gated community with winding tree-lined streets and luxurious mansions to call home. At the center of this community are the Duprees, a powerful and prestigious multi-generational family that is the very definition of Black royalty. But behind these pristine walls and lush, manicured gardens are juicy secrets and scandals waiting to be uncovered. And those who live outside these gates are watching closely. These are the places where our characters live, love, work and play. Those who have “made it” and those who haven’t are all trying to navigate life … and some with more grace than others.
The series is developed and produced by the CBS Studios/NAACP Venture, led by Sheila Ducksworth, in partnership with P&G Studios, a division of Procter & Gamble, pioneers of the soap opera genre.
“Beyond the Gates” premiered February 24 on CBS and is also available for streaming on Paramount+.
