*Ms. Lauryn Hill made a surprise return to Columbia High School in Maplewood, NJ, where she treated her former classmates to an impromptu performance during their reunion.
Hill delighted the crowd with a medley of her hits, including the Fugees’ “Ready or Not” and her own “Ex-Factor.”
“People traveled from out of state to love up on their village,” one of Hill’s former classmates wrote of the reunion on social media, per Vibe. “It was simply amazing. Still speechless from @mslaurynhill giving us an impromptu performance. This reunion was SO good for the soul.”

This event followed Hill’s recent announcement about the cancellation of her and the Fugees’ U.S. tour due to low ticket sales, which she attributes to negative media coverage.
“Last year, I faced an injury that necessitated the rescheduling of some of my shows,” Hill wrote, referring to her damaged vocal cords. “Regrettably, some media outlet’s penchant for sensationalism and clickbait headlines have seemingly created a narrative that has affected ticket sales for the North American portion of the tour.”
She added, “The trust and faith I have in my intentions and my commitment to my art seem to have been overshadowed by this unfortunate portrayal.”
As we reported, Hill said she and the band are thrilled about their upcoming remaining dates in the U.K. and Europe, given that fans there have not seen them perform live in more than 25 years.
“Performing for my fans is a profound exchange of energy and emotion that excites me every time. Every show is a piece of my expression and testament to our connection and shared love for music,” she said, reiterating her disappointment in having to nix the U.S. run.
Ms. Hill concluded: “I can assure you that no one is more disappointed about not being able to perform than I am.”
