*Netflix’s “Untold: The Death & Life of Lamar Odom” brings renewed attention to the former NBA star’s 2015 health emergency, including an unexpected role played by Kobe Bryant. The documentary reveals that Bryant made a trip to Las Vegas to stand beside Khloé Kardashian as she faced a crucial medical choice regarding Odom’s condition, Brobible reports.
Released on March 31, the film examines Odom’s journey through professional success and personal hardship. It revisits his time as a two-time NBA champion with the Los Angeles Lakers, along with the challenges that culminated in his near-fatal overdose. In October 2015, Odom was discovered unconscious at a brothel in Nevada and rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
Medical professionals later confirmed the severity of his situation, noting that he had suffered 12 strokes and six heart attacks. He was placed into a medically induced coma as doctors worked to stabilize him. During this period, Odom also experienced a collapsed lung, creating an urgent decision about whether to proceed with a dangerous operation.
According to the documentary, Bryant arrived to support Kardashian while she considered the risks involved. The surgery was ultimately performed and succeeded, though Odom remained unconscious for several days afterward.
Kardashian later reflected on the recovery process, saying, “I was there for about four months with him, every single day. We were determined to get him walking and moving again.”
The documentary also includes Odom’s account of what he describes as an afterlife experience during his coma. He recalls a dream in which Bryant appeared and told him, “L-O, the afterlife is not what people make it out to be.”
Through interviews and previously unreleased details, the film presents a deeper look at the events that reshaped Odom’s life.
