*Lamar Odom revisits one of the most terrifying moments of his life in the upcoming Netflix documentary “The Death & Life of Lamar Odom.” The former NBA star opens up about his 2015 overdose that nearly killed him and the experience he believes he had in the afterlife, according to cleveland.com.
Odom describes the afterlife as very different from common expectations. In the trailer, he reflects that the experience was nothing like what he imagined. Odom was found unresponsive in October 2015 at a Las Vegas-area brothel following drug use. Doctors reported he suffered 12 strokes and six heart attacks and placed him in a medically induced coma. After waking, he began a lengthy recovery.
The documentary includes segments of the 911 call from that night and footage related to the overdose. Per Tudum: “Through never-before-heard revelations and firsthand accounts, The Death & Life of Lamar Odom goes beyond the public narrative to expose the private struggles, hidden pressures, and pivotal decisions throughout his life that led to that moment. Premiering March 31, the documentary features candid interviews with Odom; his ex-wife, Khloé Kardashian; the former manager of the Love Ranch; and others.”

Odom has been open about his struggles with drugs and says the near-death experience changed his perspective on life. On the “Locked In” podcast, he recalled partying after finalizing divorce paperwork with Khloé Kardashian. He said he was frustrated earlier that night: “I remember being upset that he didn’t have any cocaine to take to the brothel.” Odom added that he did not knowingly take drugs and believes something may have been added to his drink without his knowledge.
After waking in the hospital, he learned drugs were in his system. “I had 12 strokes and six heart attacks. How the fk I get here?” he said, recalling that he could not walk or speak for an extended period. He also discussed the physical and emotional toll of recovery: “I had to learn. I couldn’t hold my bowels… I gotta get my fking diaper changed every three to four hours ’cause I can’t even hold my bowels. I gotta learn how to walk.”
Reflecting on his survival, he told the “Locked In” podcast, “It’s kind of medically impossible to have 12 strokes and six heart attacks and survive. I’m probably here for a reason. To tell people my story. I guess hopefully it changes their lives.”
Netflix’s “Untold” explores Odom’s basketball career, battles with addiction, and road to recovery. “The Death & Life of Lamar Odom” premieres on March 31. Watch the trailer below.
