*KFC is leaning into both sweet nostalgia and savory snacking with its latest menu updates. As part of its current seasonal lineup, the fast food chain has introduced Strawberry & Crème Pie Poppers, a dessert that bears a striking resemblance to a McDonald’s favorite.
These new poppers expand KFC’s pie lineup, which launched last year with well-received apple and cherry varieties. Fans praised the balance of crispy texture and subtle sweetness, and the brand is betting the strawberry version will deliver the same satisfaction. The dessert joins the return of another customer favorite: Chicken & Waffles, All Recipes reports.
While the pie poppers are drawing positive attention, the Dunk It Bucket, KFC’s first new bucket combo in nearly 10 years, isn’t faring as well. Priced at $7, the single-serve meal includes two chicken tenders, a drink, a dipping sauce, fries, and KFC’s latest savory creation: Mashed Potato Poppers. The poppers, designed like nuggets but filled with creamy mashed potatoes, promise a fun, snackable experience.
Despite the inventive concept, customer feedback has been underwhelming. Many critics online say the combo doesn’t justify the cost. “Only 2 tenders? Mark this one down as unjustified!” wrote one YouTube user. Another viewer quipped, “That ain’t no meal, that’s a snack,” while others compared it unfavorably to more filling options at Taco Bell and even Costco’s $4.99 rotisserie chicken.
KFC does offer expanded versions of the Dunk It Bucket, with 3- or 4-piece tender options and calorie counts reaching up to 1,760, but pricing details vary by location. While taste isn’t in question, the perception of value may be a hurdle KFC will need to overcome if it wants this combo to stick.
