*In March, KFC introduced the Dunk It Bucket, its first new bucket offering in nearly a decade. Priced at $7, the single-serve combo includes two chicken tenders, fries, and a new item, Mashed Potato Poppers, which resemble nuggets on the outside but offer a creamy mashed potato center. The meal also comes with a dipping sauce and a drink, designed to deliver a saucy, snackable experience for on-the-go diners.
Despite the novelty, the response has been lukewarm. Many customers feel the portion sizes don’t justify the cost. Social media platforms, especially YouTube, were flooded with critical comments. “Only 2 tenders? Mark this one down as unjustified!” wrote one user in a YouTube short review. Another added, “That ain’t no meal, that’s a snack.” A third critic noted, “Real Americans know that should be a kid’s meal.”
Some critics even compared the offering to better-value options at Taco Bell, McDonald’s, and a full Costco rotisserie chicken that sells for $4.99.
The combo does offer a more substantial 3-piece or 4-piece option with calorie counts ranging from 1,110 to 1,760, but pricing details for these larger sizes vary. While the meal delivers in taste with crispy tenders and comforting poppers, many customers feel the portion-to-price ratio misses the mark.
As KFC promotes the bucket as a crave-worthy combo, the company may need to reconsider value perception if it wants this new item to win over longtime fans.
