*BET is making its 25th annual BET Awards a “night the culture will never forget,” with putting Kevin Hart in charge as the host of the event. And Hart is not out to disappoint, with him out to put his own stamp in making the BET Awards a “black-tie affair.”
Taking the now formal occasion to heart, the “Ride Along” film series entertainer proclaimed “we’re raising the bar” in a teaser video that found him hustling around the set sampling caviar appetizers and joking that rock legend Lenny Kravitz and “Not Like Us” producer Mustard will have to trade their leather pants in for tuxedos.
This year’s event, which is set to take place in June, marks a milestone in its honoring the most influential voices across music, film, television, and sports, Vibe reports per a press statement.
“25 years of legendary moments, and we’re turning it all the way up,” the award show’s official award show Instagram account described. “Expect the laughs, the surprises, the energy… and a night the culture will never forget.”
For Hart, the BET Awards is a chance to engage in celebration of a worthy event he is honored to host a second time after performing MC duties in 2011.
“I love a celebration! It’s a chance to reflect, cherish, and honor life’s unforgettable moments. I’m truly honored to host the 25th BET Awards and celebrate the culture’s biggest night,” the 45-year-old funnyman voiced. “This year marks the 25th anniversary, and my partners at Hartbeat, BET, and JCE are pulling out all the stops to make it a night to remember. It’s a black-tie affair, and you’re all invited. Tune in live on June 9th, only on BET.”
“Kevin Hart is a powerhouse of an entertainer. His impact spans comedy, film, television, and beyond. As we celebrate 25 years of the BET Awards, we couldn’t think of a more dynamic host to lead this historic night,” adds Connie Orlando, EVP, Specials, Music Programming & Music Strategy at BET. “Kevin’s unmatched charisma, comedic brilliance, and deep-rooted connection to our culture make him the perfect choice to commemorate this milestone event.”
Prior to generating what will be headlines highlighting memorable moments from its past to the present, the BET Awards prep fans for the live show via the BET Experience. The three-day event, which will take place in Los Angeles, will feature multiple concerts and a Fan Fest among a slew of events for the culture.
The high-powered lineup performers include Buju Banton, The Roots, Lil’ Kim, Redman & Method Man, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Raekwon, Nick Cannon, and others bringing their popular talents across multiple venues and stages, with more announcements to come.
