*South African gospel singer Kelly Khumalo broke her silence after a Gauteng High Court heard bombshell evidence this week accusing her of orchestrating the murder of her baby daddy, football star Senzo Meyiwa.
In 2014, Meyiwa was shot to death while protecting Khumalo from armed robbers. Six years later, five suspects were arrested in 2020.
The lead investigator, Bongani Gininda, told the court during the trial of the accused on Wednesday that Khumalo was the mastermind behind “a contractual assassination or hit” on Meyiwa, BBC reports.
Khumalo’s attorney initially told local media the artist had “no knowledge” of the five suspects but two of the accused said Kelly hired them to kill Meyiwa.
The lead investigator said Khumalo is connected to the alleged killers through “cell phone linkages.”

Meanwhile, Khumalo’s spokesperson told the BBC they “trust in the legal process.”
The Netflix documentary “Senzo: Murder of a Soccer Star” was released in 2022 and examines the killing of the late Bafana Bafana goalie. Fans have been divided over the murder and discuss the case on social media.
One person recently shared a message of support with Khumalo, writing, “My prayers and support go to Ms @KellyKhumaloZA. May God protect you, and give you strength to continue with your amazing professional work in music. All the best, and many more happy returns …”
Khumalo, who has always maintained her innocence, replied to the tweet, simply stating, “Thank you,” along with a heart emoji.
