*The most troubling moment of UFC Freedom 250 at the White House was not a knockout, a championship celebration, or even the spectacle itself. It was a comment.
Undefeated fighter, former Fresno State University football player, and wrestler Josh Hokit, used a national stage to make disparaging remarks about former First Lady Michelle Obama, a woman who has spent decades representing intelligence, service, education, and dignity on the world stage. The response from many in attendance was equally disturbing. Some laughed. Some cheered. Most remained silent. He said, “Michelle Obama is a man. Am I right America?” Let that resonate.
Silence matters.
This was not simply about one fighter’s poor judgment. It was a public display of a toxic culture that too often rewards shock value over character. Hokit may be undefeated in the cage, but maturity and wisdom are measured outside of it. These were adult male comments, not manly comments.

What makes this episode more disappointing is the lack of public reprimand from many political leaders, celebrities, business executives, and influencers who witnessed the remarks or later learned of them. Leadership requires speaking when something is wrong, even when it is politically inconvenient. When mediocre people have the stage this is normally the case. Every business, public official, event promoter, the White House, the UFC, and its sponsors should all apologize and demand that this mediocre white guy with low self-esteem m
Black women have historically endured some of the harshest scrutiny, disrespect, and attacks in American public life. Michelle Obama is no exception. Whether one agrees with her politics or not, basic decency should not be controversial.
America can do better than celebrating insults as entertainment. Character still matters. Respect still matters. And when dignity is attacked in public, silence should never be the loudest response. Black women are the most raped, underpaid, abused, and overlooked, yet the most intelligent women in the world. We salute you, Michelle Obama.
