*An onstage disruption at the British Academy Film Awards in London on Feb. 22 has sparked debate after actor and comedian Jamie Foxx publicly dismissed a Tourette’s-related explanation for a racial slur shouted during the ceremony.
The outburst occurred while “Sinners” costars Michael B. Jordan and Delroy Lindo were presenting an award. BAFTA nominee John Davidson yelled the N-word, later attributing the incident to his Tourette’s diagnosis. He did not issue an apology to either actor.
Foxx addressed the situation on X, disputing the explanation offered. “Nah he meant that sh-t. Unacceptable,” he wrote.

As SandraRose.com reports, some users on the platform pushed back against Foxx’s stance, suggesting he familiarize himself with Tourette syndrome, which is a neurological condition characterized by involuntary verbal outbursts and physical tics.
According to reports, Davidson continued interrupting the ceremony with remarks such as “Boring!”, “Bullsh*t!”, “F–k you!” and “Shut the f–k up!” during comments delivered by BAFTA chair Sara Putt.
Actor Robert Aramayo offered a defense of Davidson in remarks to the BBC. “They’re tics, he [Davidson] is ticking, and we have to understand that the way we perceive Tourette’s is a joint responsibility. It’s not shouting obscenities, it’s not being abusive, it’s Tourette’s and they’re tics.”
Following the incident, the studio behind “Sinners” addressed the situation, Variety reports. A source told the publication that Warner Bros. executives flagged the matter with awards organizers and asked that the remark be removed from the BBC’s broadcast, believing their request had been relayed. However, reports indicate BAFTA did not respond.
The BBC, which aired the event on a two-hour delay, faced criticism for not removing the racial slur from the broadcast. The unedited segment also remained accessible on BBC iPlayer until Monday morning, further fueling debate over the network’s handling of the situation.
