*A promising young talent from “The Voice Nigeria” has tragically died following a snake bite incident at her home.
Ifunanya Nwangene, who appeared on the show’s third season, passed away on January 31 at age 26, according to BBC Africa. Sam C. Ezugwu, music director of Amemuso Choir, where Nwangene performed as a soprano, announced her death on Facebook. She died “due to a snake bite” at the Federal Medical Center hospital. “A rising star, Ifunanya was on the cusp of sharing her incredible talent with the world,” the choir stated in their announcement posted February 1.
Nwangene was asleep in her Abuja residence when the attack occurred. Fellow choir member Hillary Obinna told BBC Africa that “the snake bite woke her up.” Authorities later located two additional snakes inside the home.

Nwangene first sought medical attention at a neighborhood facility, but lifesaving serum was not in stock. She subsequently went to Federal Medical Center for additional care, where she succumbed to her injuries.
Three days before the fatal incident, the vocalist had been creating new recordings. Nigerian artist Tbrass revealed she contributed vocals for his forthcoming album release. Her final Instagram post teased this collaboration.
Tbrass paid tribute to Nwangene, writing alongside studio footage of her: “An irreplaceable loss to the Abuja music society and Nigeria at large.” He added: “The pain of saying goodbye to someone whose voice and energy brought joy, inspiration, and even healing to many is heavy.”
Ezugwu indicated that funeral details will be announced through the Amemuso Choir’s official Facebook page.
