*The family of a 5-year-old African American girl diagnosed with autism and community activists are demanding criminal charges against a teacher at a local child development center, alleging the educator threw a shoe that struck the child. A protest has been called for this Friday evening to demand accountability.
The incident allegedly occurred at the Destiny Development Center in Inglewood CA, According to the family, a teacher threw a shoe in the direction of the child, identified only as Beautyful, hitting her. The family’s account states that the teacher later apologized but reportedly blamed Starla for “giving her a reason” to throw it. The family further alleges that two other staff members witnessed the event and laughed instead of intervening.
“I’m shocked and horrified that my innocent baby was harmed and humiliated in front of everyone,” said Beautyful’s mother, Michelae Jones. “This teacher should not only be fired immediately but criminally prosecuted for child abuse.”
The case has been taken up by civil rights activist Najee Ali, Director of Project Islamic Hope, who is assisting the family. He sharply criticized the alleged inaction of the other staff.
“Every staff member present are mandated reporters who should help stop child abuse,” Ali stated. “Instead of admonishing the teacher for throwing a shoe at an autistic child, two staff members sat and laughed. The teachers present should be held accountable and face criminal charges.”
Ali and community advocates are calling for a full investigation by authorities, the immediate termination of all staff involved, and criminal prosecution where the evidence warrants it.

To amplify these demands, a community protest has been organized. Supporters are asked to gather:
-
Location: 4949 W. 104th St., Inglewood, CA 90304 (Destiny Development Center)
-
Date: Friday, February 6, 2026
-
Time: 5:00 PM
“All community members and supporters are encouraged to attend,” said Ali. “We must stand together to protect our most vulnerable children and ensure those entrusted with their care are held to the highest standard.”
As of this reporting, the Destiny Development Center has not issued a public statement regarding the allegations. It is unclear if an internal investigation is underway or if the teacher in question remains employed at the facility. The Inglewood Police Department has been contacted for comment on whether a criminal investigation has been initiated.
