*The first teaser for season 3 of “House of the Dragon” has arrived, showing House Targaryen preparing for all-out war.
The footage features fiery dragon and battle sequences and members of the divided family going into battle. The season’s tagline, “From Fire Comes Darkness,” signals the peril ahead.
The trailer also provides glimpses of Aegon II Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney), who fled King’s Landing at the end of season 2 with Larys Strong (Matthew Needham), while his brother Aemond (Ewan Mitchell) begins to settle into the Iron Throne.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Ryan Condal previewed the Battle of the Gullet, a pivotal conflict depicted in George R. R. Martin’s fictional Targaryen history, “Fire and Blood.”

“In many ways, the Gullet has been on the minds of the production for about three years now and trying to figure out how we were going to mount it in a way that was both producible and exciting, thrilling. The planning that has gone into this…basically all departments working in concert to really make a thing that nobody has ever done before,” Condal said.
Condal also hinted at the season’s intensity: “I will say that the war this season goes very hot, very, very quickly. I think the people that were waiting and waiting for all of the horrible, brutal, pitiless bloodshed will be getting it in copious amounts.”
HBO CEO Casey Bloys confirmed that Season 4, set to premiere in 2028, will conclude the series.
The series stars Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra, Matt Smith as Prince Daemon, Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower, Olivia Cooke as Alicent, Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon, and Paddy Considine as King Viserys. When “House of the Dragon” debuted in 2022, it drew 9.986 million viewers across HBO and HBO Max, making it the network’s largest original series premiere.
Season 3 promises to expand on the Targaryens’ turbulent history, deliver the epic battles fans expect, and set the stage for the series’ climactic conclusion.
