During a meeting in Paris on Wednesday, Tinubu engaged in talks with Google’s team to explore a strategic partnership aimed at boosting Nigeria’s AI and digital capabilities, per Tech Africa News. The collaboration focuses on expanding digital infrastructure, upskilling the workforce, fostering AI research, promoting cloud adoption, and strengthening Nigeria’s role in the global digital economy.
“Nigeria has an incredible opportunity to lead in AI and digital innovation in Africa. Google is excited to continue working with the Nigerian government to create an ecosystem that fosters innovation and economic growth,” CEO Sundar Pichai stated at the meeting.
According to Tijani, the partnership between Nigeria and Google aims to strengthen Nigeria’s digital economy.
“It is worth noting that Nigeria already has some bright prospects in the AI space, including the likes of Awarri Technologies, with whom the Federal Government is currently collaborating to build critical AI software infrastructure to meet the needs of the local market unique to our arts and culture, languages, and society, amongst others, which have mostly been put on the backburner by current existing models. This includes data capture platforms and an LLM for Nigerian languages in partnership with our National Centre for AI and Robotics ,” Tinubu stated, per Arise News.

Nigeria’s Digital Innovation Partnership with Google aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of his administration, which aims to diversify the economy through industrialization, digitization, and innovation.
“This will empower businesses, create new opportunities, and establish Nigeria as a significant player in the global digital economy,” the president said.
Arise News reports that the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy will supervise the initiative, while the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) will spearhead its implementation.
“Nigeria is poised to take the lead in AI and technology—this is merely the start of an exciting journey!” Tinubu declared.
