*San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones is calling for Kanye West’s upcoming concert at the Alamodome to be canceled. The show is scheduled for July 4, coinciding with the nation’s 250th birthday celebration.
Jones publicly urged the Alamodome to cancel the show, arguing that the city shouldn’t host an artist with a record of antisemitic remarks. Her post on social media read, “I support canceling the @kanyewest concert. Military City USA should not host someone with a record of hate speech and antisemitic comments in a city-funded facility like our Alamodome — not ever, and certainly not on July 4th, our Nation’s 250th birthday.”
According to Rolling Stone, Jones’ stance follows Florida Sen. Rick Scott’s earlier call for Tampa officials to block West’s upcoming performances at Raymond James Stadium. Both leaders have cited the rapper’s history of antisemitism as grounds for cancellation.

West’s tour has faced similar obstacles abroad. London’s Wireless Festival dropped him after the U.K. denied his visa, and a planned show in Poland was canceled amid backlash over his praise of Nazism.
In January, West attempted to make amends with a full-page apology in The Wall Street Journal. He wrote that his past actions stemmed from mental-health struggles, explaining, “I gravitated toward the most destructive symbol I could find, the swastika, and even sold T-shirts bearing it.”
He added, “I regret and am deeply mortified by my actions in that state, and am committed to accountability, treatment, and meaningful change. It does not excuse what I did, though. I am not a Nazi or an antisemite. I love Jewish people.”
Despite the apology, resistance continues. Jones reaffirmed her position, writing, “Standing up to antisemitism is exactly what it takes to achieve a more perfect Union.”
West performed this year in Turkey, the Netherlands, Georgia, and at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. His additional U.S. dates include June 26 and 28 in Tampa Bay.
